Title: Melt-spun liquid-filled polymeric fibers
Symposium: Textiles and Fibres
In Brief
Rudolf Hufenus has specialized on technical textiles, carrying out research leading to his PhD and achieving three publications noted as best papers, amongst numerous others. In 2003 he initiated Empa's fiber research and development laboratory. Since the installation of a pilot multicomponent fiber spinning plant in 2004, as well as associated production and analytical equipment, he gained expertise through R&D activities pertaining to the melt spinning of different polymer systems and the incorporation of liquids and nanoparticles. As assistant head of Empa's Laboratory for Advanced Fibers and R&D manager of the Polymers & Processing group, he is responsible for several completed and ongoing industry-related projects aiming at novel synthetic fibers, and he is involved in projects focusing on fundamental fiber research.
