Title: First integrated human like machine vision system for the surface inspection of curved injection molded parts

Symposium: Injection Molding & Molds

Educational Background

Dieter P. Gruber studied Theoretical Physics and Materials Physics at the Technical University Graz. In 2001 and 2002 Dr. Gruber worked as a guest researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) in Freiburg, Germany. In his pHD, which was finished in 2003, he modelled and investigated the electrodynamic behaviour of organic opto-electronic multilayer devices.

Professional Experience

In the same year, Dr. Gruber started research work at the Polymer Competence Center Leoben (PCCL). He chairs working groups at the PCCL with the research focus on “Material electrodynamics”, “Surface appearance characterization, “Machine vision”, and “IN-LINE surface inspection”. Dr. Gruber has received several awards, including the Magna ACS Innovation Award 2013 and the Houska-Price 2014. Dr. Gruber is the Austrian of the year in the category “SCIENCE”.
