Professional Experience

1973 - 1977 Development engineer with American Enka Company, Enka, NC. Work involved development of improved processes and equipment for polymer melt spinning. A significant amount of mathematical modeling and computer simulation was done as part of the development function.
1977 - 1990 Manager Process Engineering in Corporate R&D with Raychem Corporation, Menlo Park, CA. Work involved a wide variety of polymer processing operations: compounding, extrusion, molding, post forming operations, polymer characterization, and polymer rheology. Manager Extrusion Technology in the Manufacturing Process Development Division of Raychem. Responsibility for all sheet extrusion (production and development), wire coating, tubing extrusion, blown film extrusion, and coextrusion activities in the Manufacturing group. Also internal consultant on process related problems and activities.
 1990 - present President of REE, Inc, Auburn, CA. REE provides design services, problem solving, process and material analysis, extrusion equipment, and training for the polymer processing industry. REE develops simulation software for extrusion as well as computer based, interactive training programs for the plastics industry and new extrusion technologies. REE also provides expert witness services.

1979 - 1985 Instructor for U.C. Berkeley Extension, teaching polymer processing
1979 - 2004 Seminar instructor for Society of Plastics Engineers, conducting seminars on extrusion and statistical process control
1984 - present Guest lecturer at University of Minnesota at Minneapolis, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, the University of Akron, Ohio, the University of Wisconsin, Madison lecturing on the engineering aspects of polymer extrusion. Presented seminars in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, the Netherlands, Germany, England, France, Switzerland, Italy, Sweden, Portugal, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Japan, and Indonesia.
1991 - 2000 Seminar instructor for the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, teaching seminars on Extrusion, Mixing and Compounding, and Extrusion Die Design
1998 - present Instructor for Rauwendaal Extrusion Engineering, Inc. teaching seminars (both public and in-house) on fundamental principles of extrusion, advanced extrusion, screw design, die design, twin screw extrusion, foam extrusion, rubber extrusion, troubleshooting extrusion problems, sheet extrusion, film extrusion, statistical process control in extrusion and injection molding, blow film extrusion, film extrusion, profile extrusion, tubing extrusion, mixing and compounding, etc.
